About me
Owner/Captain, Navigator, ships carpenter & 1st engineer, chief cook & bottle-washer...just can't do it all at the same time. We've had this vessel for near onto a year now & we're going to sail her to New Zealand as a Docu-story. Firstly, there's the "Muster" & the "Preparation". We are looking for individuals that would like to learn traditional and not so traditional shipwright work as we film the demo & reconstruction of the pilothouse and the renovation to the galley, other minor interior modifications and routine wooden boat maintenance. Then we'll be extensively training for any eventuality, from Man Overboard, Survival at Sea & Wilderness 1st Aid. So, we are looking for folks that want to learn & be assigned to instruct. Our exercises will take us up & down the Southern Cal Coast & out to the Channel Islands. There will be calm to heavy weather sail training. Subject will also include, navigation, meteorology, can be inferred by the above. We intend to video document all of our activities. I would be seeking a few mates that may carry on for various legs of the voyage as we travel to New Zealand.

Rolling with the Changes

Wow, how things have progressed. My apologies for not posting more regularly. While working on our own "Salvo" I landed a position on a much more modern, high tech power vessel, an Azimut 55S. So, now we have a foot in two worlds, wooden sailboat traditional and modern power, high tech. We now work for a private client and that been very busy with an engaging variety of details from galley to engine room. I have found a permanent crewman for "Salvation" but, here again now we are both caught…

Disposable World, thow a way people

Just to be clear...we are saving a vessel that is not a pedigree, not particularly historic and that contemporary society would deem disposable. Still, i do see her as a resource, with timbers that may have been saplings when the pilgrims landed, she has a lot of strength and sturdiness left to her and the only reason most others would toss her aside is for lack of knowledge or cost of labor does not balance against cost of item to be retained. I, for one, I do not agree with our disposable…

Hi Jerrid,

and thanks for your message. Sounds like you have a good plan! Where about's are you at the moment? For the next few months I will be in the Balearic islands working and saving - and then hopefully back to the tranquility of the islands in the Pacific. I don't mind getting my hands dirty at all, and most of all want to learn as much as I can on my sailing adventures!

Hi Jerrid,

I'm back from the boat yard I was working in but working on and off at the Paris boat show. Is there any way we can speak by phone or Skype?

I sent you an message via floatplan with my email address in it.  It would be great to continue dialogue about your trip and the potential for me to crew for you.  The email I sent you would be preferred.  Looking forward to hearing back

Hey Jerrid,

Your idea for the voyage and then retiring ownership of your boat is super neat!  I have ~10,000 miles under 'my keel' and am interested in getting more knowledge and experience at sea.  I did a trip last March from San Diego to the Marquesas.  I would be interested in being involved in your voyage if the timing worked out.  I am sure you are being bombarded with emails, but perhaps we can start some dialogue.

Hi Jerrid,

I really have no expectation... I have been sailing and traveling since I finished school in march and am looking for more experiences and stuff to do. What kind of work are you planning to do on the boat and where are you planning on doing the refit? If you'd like to talk more about it, my email is, and my phone number is 310-998-7646. But I won't be available by phone until tomorrow night, as I'm currently in the Caribbean and my phone doesn't work here at the moment. I'm also happy to send a CV via email if you'd like.

We are now in the "Muster" phase, assembling the folks that will participate. The "Prep" phase will be working on the vessel. Design and planning helps make the work more concise and finite. Then the fun begins; the "Shakedown" off the Coast here. We'll be training regularly to be in a state of physical readiness to meet any eventuality. Then we take the long leg to the Marquesas.
